Turumba Festival of Teresa, Rizal

Today, August 23, Teresa, Rizal is celebrating Turumba Festival. This is done every year during the feast of Saint Rose of Lima called “Turumba sa Birhen” which means a unique dance dedicated to Saint Rose of Lima, the patron saint of Teresa.

Song and dance rites are practiced and participated by children, young and old who dance with the accompaniment of the musical band. They wear costumes with big salakot decorated with multi colored Japanese papers and dance their way from the church to the different barangays of the town. They get hold of any branches of trees and shrubs found on their way to use as their swaying instruments for the dance.
