BFAR Calabarzon opens Rizal provincial fishery office

Rizal Provincial Fishery Office - BFAR Rizal ProvinceANTIPOLO, Rizal, June 21 (PIA) — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) IV-A achieved another milestone as it established the Rizal Provincial Fishery Office (RPFO), the 5th provincial office at Barangay Mayamot in this city recently.

Before the establishment of the office, the BFAR Calabarzon had only four provincial fishery offices (PFO) in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon. PFO-Cavite is housed in the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) in Rosario, Cavite headed by Magdalena M. Samala; PFO-Laguna is housed in the sub-regional office of BFAR IV-A in Bambang, Los Baños, Laguna and is headed by Victoria B. Adora; PFO-Batangas is housed in the BFAR IV-A fisheries inspection and quarantine services building in Batangas City and is headed by Rosario C. Del Mundo; and PFO-Quezon has its own office building located in Lucena City headed by Sonia O. Elloso.

Meanwhile, Rizal Provincial Fishery Officer Ma. Lourdes G. Cano has been a one-man office without her own building in the province of Rizal where she serves. Her table in the extension, training and communication division (ETCD) as the training section chief at the regional office in Quezon City also serves as her table for Rizal-PFO.

The establishment of Rizal-PFO’s office was initiated by Regional Director Esmeralda Paz D. Manalang in February 2012 during a management executive committee meeting. Through the perseverance and efforts of Mrs. Cano, the new office was realized, complete with office equipment and supplies.

During the recent blessing and inauguration of the office, Mrs. Cano said the establishment of the office is her legacy to succeeding Provincial Fishery Officers of Rizal. She was very thankful to RD Manalang as she was the only RD to have thought of providing her with her own office.

The PFOs are responsible for coordinating the various fisheries programs and activities of the Agency to the respective Local Government Units of their provinces. (BFAR4A/CPG, PIA4A)
